The Al-Salam Institute Islamic Scholarship Programme (ISP) All Courses

This course seeks to clarify critical questions on the treatment and status of women in Islam. It addresses some of the key Quranic texts and hadiths narrations that are often misquoted or misinterpreted to prove that women have an inferior status in Islam.

Course Overview This lecture touches on the contribution of the female scholars of hadith (al-muhaddithat) to the Islamic intellectual heritage.

This course provides an understanding of the differences in methodology, classifications, and definitions employed by the muhaddithin of differing tiers. Students will cover the third and final part of the Bustan al-Muhaddithin anthology, covering compilations such as the Sahih of Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Hibban, and the al-Mustadrak of al-Hakim.
