Why Learn Arabic?

Deepen your understanding of Divine texts, connect with a global community, and unlock centuries of rich Islamic heritage.

Arabic isn’t just a language—it’s the vessel of divine revelation. As the language of the Qur’an and the rich legacy of Prophetic tradition, Arabic opens the door to a deeper spiritual and intellectual connection with your faith. Studying Arabic allows you to:

  • Access Authentic Texts: Engage directly with classical works and contemporary writings without relying on translations.
  • Enhance Your Worship: Experience the beauty and precision of the Qur’anic language.
  • Empower Your Mind: Strengthen your critical thinking and understanding of Islamic sciences.

Why Al‐Salam?

Unique Syllabus

Our syllabus has been designed to provide students with a deep understanding of both Arabic and the Islamic Sciences. Our courses are delivered by some of the UK’s leading academics and traditionally-trained scholars; we combine classical Islamic texts with contemporary works to enable students to graduate with an incisive understanding of the religion.

One Day a Week

For many it is not possible to spend years or even decades studying the Islamic Sciences full time. Our programmes are structured so that students are only required to dedicate one day a week to their studies, making the programme ideal for both full-time students and working professionals, as well as homemakers.

Shaykh Akram Nadwi

Shaykh Akram Nadwi is a Hadith scholar of the highest calibre as well as one of the leading Islamic thinkers of our time. Our programmes are primarily authorised by Shaykh Akram Nadwi. Graduates from the Institute do so under his tutelage, receiving their Shahādah ‘Ālimiyyah upon completion of the programme.

Live Online Classes

All of our content is available live online for students all over the world. We currently have a global network of students from every continent – except perhaps Antarctica! – who connect with their teachers and classmates on a weekly basis. As a global community, we come together to learn, study and train in the sciences of the religion.

More Reasons to Learn Arabic

Allah chose Arabic as the language for His Final word and that of His Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Allah SWT chose and singled out Arabic from amongst all the languages of the world to be the vehicle for His final Revelation to the whole of humanity. This fact alone should constitute sufficient reason for Muslims to learn Arabic.

Understand the Words of your Lord without a translation

The Holy Qur’an is the Word of Allah Almighty. No translation does justice to the Qu’ran. The sacred book of Islam, the Quran (القُرْآن, al-Qur’ān in Arabic), confirms the Arabic language as the only official language of Islam. Allah says in the Qur’an, “Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur’an that you might understand.” (Qur’an, 43:3)

Understand the Words of our Prophet SAW without a translation.

The Last and Final Messenger, our beloved Prohphet Muhammad SAW conversed in Arabic. All the Ahadith and sayings of the Prophet are in Arabic.

Access books on Islamic Sciences to engage with the religion with greater depth.

Apart from the Qur’an and Sunnah there are fourteen centuries of rich Islamic legacy left behind by the world’s greatest minds. Much of our Islamic heritage is still inaccessible to the Non-Arabic speaking Muslim population due to the language barrier.

Problematic nature of translations.

Translations also have their own deficiencies and shortcomings. These range from gross misinterpretation to poor quality and sub-standard translation.

Make your Worship (Ibadah) more meaningful.

Understanding the Qur’an, hadiths, and our prayers without the need for translation or interpretation is a great blessing. It will deepen your love and respect for Allah’s words. But it cannot be attained without taking the first step – learning Arabic.
