Student Code of Conduct

Al-Salam Institute enjoys an international reputation as an exemplary provider of Islamic knowledge. As such, we expect the entire ASI community, including all staff, students, and trustees, to uphold the highest morals and manners both inside and out of the classroom. We urge you as students of knowledge to conduct yourselves at all times in a manner that does not bring ASI into disrepute. Failure to abide by these policies may result in dismissal from the course. For the purposes of classroom conduct, please note the following:

  • Respect the teacher, organisers and fellow students; this includes being punctual to class.
  • Treat others with kindness, consideration and honesty.
  • Abide by the rules and instructions laid down by ASI for academic activity.
  • Behave with modesty and professionalism by upholding Islamic etiquettes in communication with the opposite gender.
  • Take care in avoiding equipment and wires to avoid tripping and/or causing damage.
  • Clear up all rubbish from your desks before leaving.
  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the premises.
  • Food is prohibited during classes; however hot beverages, juice, and water may be permissible – subject to your teachers’ approval.
  • Mobile phones must be turned on silent during all classes. Do not check messages, emails etc. on your phones during class unless it is an absolute necessity.
  • Laptops and tablets are allowed, however surfing anything other than class material during class is strictly prohibited.
  • Sit respectfully and upright — if you need to stretch do so briefly.
  • Students seated in the front row of class should refrain from extending their legs.
  • If you need to excuse yourself from the classroom, please do so quietly and with minimum disruption.
  • Students must allow others the physical space and courtesy to approach all teachers.
  • Questions must be asked during class time only. Break times and lunchtimes are for teachers as well as students.
  • Personal recording of all classes are strictly prohibited. You are not permitted to make any audio or video recordings at any time.
